Mechanicville Outlasts Holy Trinity

mechanicville-nyThe Friday night matchup between Mechanicville and the Pride from Holy Trinity brought together a pair of 1-0 Class C squads that had a big game feel for a week two clash, and on this night the two teams did not disappoint.

After trading haymakers over four quarters of play this one ended when Raider quarterback Daniel Motta took a knee in the victory formation as Raider Nation exhaled, and celebrated an electrifying 38-34 victory over the visitors from Holy Trinity. Continue reading

Hoosick Falls Tops Mechanicville

Hoosick Falls 5  Mechanicville 0:  In a match played at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Tuesday the host Panthers threw a shutout victory over the Red Raiders of Mechanicville.

The Falls Ryan Bloomer carded the low round of 34, and was joined in the winner’s circle by teammates Matthew Smith, Connor Smith, Miles Smith, and Allison Hathaway as the Panthers posted the convincing early season “W”.

Despite the first day of classes more than two weeks away for  most area high schools, the 2017-18 Wasaren fall season is underway with golf taking center stage.  A full slate of matches were played on Thursday, with two more on Friday as the league’s golf teams begin their quest for a Wasaren title. Hoosic Valley Falls in Regionals

On a day dominated by pitching Ticonderoga pushed across the lone run of the contest in the third frame and hung on to defeat Hoosic Valley 1-0 in a Class C regional baseball semifinal at Husky Field in Gloversville.

Winning pitcher Dalton Granger led off the third with a double and came around to score later in the inning on the only Hoosic Valley error in the game.

Granger scattered five hits and didn’t allow a base runner past second in picking up the complete game victory.

Jon Colligan was outstanding from the hill for the Valley allowing just three hits on the day.

Hoosic Valley finishes another exceptional spring season with a 20-5 mark, and their fourth straight Section II title.

 

Greenwich Wins on Both Diamonds

73_greenwichGreenwich and Cambridge got together in Cambridge on Thursday for baseball and softball contests in a season where both girls squads are rolling while the boys teams have struggled.   Yesterday Greenwich rode a strong pitching performance from freshman Christian O’Brien to an 11-5 victory, while the Lady Witches needed extra frames to turn back the Indians.
