After a week one 34-0 defeat at the hands of Greenwich, Hoosick Falls made the short trip north yesterday to take on the Indians of Hoosic Valley in a Class C football matchup. Hoosic Valley Runs Past Granville

When I wrote a preseason article about Hoosic Valley football a couple of weeks back I remarked that running backs Tom Madigan and Isaac Sanchez were arguably the best running back tandem in the area.  After Saturday’s game in Granville that argument gained strength.  The two backs combined for 291 yards and six touchdowns as the Valley posted a 43-12 victory of Granville. CSJ’s Steele Named PLayer of the Year

Regina Steele named Women’s Player of the Year for YSCC

Several College of St. Joseph student-athletes were honored at this year’s Yankee Small College Conference banquet.

Regina Steele was named Women’s Player of the Year. The Ellenville, NY, native was a dominant force on the leaderboards and was ranked second in the conference in scoring, averaging 18 points per game, as well as leading the USCAA in total rebounds, rebounds per game, offensive rebounds. and field goal percentage. Steele also joined the 2,000 point club early in the season. Steele was named Outstanding Defensive Player for the YSCC Tournament. The senior center averaged 13 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 1.7 blocks in the tournament.

Women’s Basketball Head Coach Chris Wood was named Women’s Coach of the Year. Wood led the Lady Saints to a 28-1 overall record this season and their second consecutive conference championship title and back-to-back USCAA National Tournament Appearances.

Mookie Kennedy, Jazz Laracuente, and Regina Steele were named to to the All-Conference First Team, while Arreonte Anderson earned Second Team All-Conference honors.  Kennedy was named YSCC Tournament Most Valuable Player, averaging 22 points per game. The Trumbull, Conn. native is a powerhouse player, leading the YSCC in points per game. She is also ranked second in the nation in points and points per game.

Kareem Brown and Antonio Gordon were named Second Team All-Conference members for the men’s basketball team. Brown, a 6’8″ forward from Troy, NY, averaged 14.5 points and 10.7 rebounds per game, while Gordon led the Saints in scoring with 16 points per game.
