Diamond Action on the Horizon

With the tremendous weather we’ve enjoyed throughout the month of March, area softball and baseball squads have actually spent the majority of their preseason outdoors.  A nice change of pace as a typical spring normally means two or more weeks of indoor practices, with schools hoping to get on their fields for the first scheduled contest.

A few Wasaren schools have taken the diamond in non- league affairs, as Thursday saw Cambridge, Greenwich and Granville in softball action.

Crazy final scores in all three contests as is so often the case in the early spring.  Cambridge topped Berlin 32-0, Greenwich bested Waterford 20-3, while Granville fell to Salem 26-0.

The league schedule get’s underway next week with a full slate on Monday. With a reminder that the varsity softball and baseball teams travel together in Wasaren play here’s a look at Monday’s schedule.

Cambridge @ Granville

Tamarac @ Greenwich

Mechanicville @ Hoosick Falls

Stillwater @ Hoosic Valley

With the weather forecast calling for some light snow over the weekend and on Monday as well, we’ll see how many if any teams take to the diamond, but here’s hoping our beautiful March weather carries over into April so players and especially fans can enjoy the games without the parkas and blankets, typically needed in the early going, being necessary.
