Eleven Wasaren teams stepped on the field Monday as the Section II baseball and softball tournaments begin a week that will end with champions being crowned in every classification.

Here’s how things played out for the conference squads.

Softball

Greenwich 7  Canajoharie 2

Winning Pitcher:  Lily McCauliffe

Leading Hitters:  Witches – Gabby Wiss 2B      Courtney Fraher 2B

Holding a 2-0 advantage, the Witches plated four in the bottom of the fourth to take control in the Class C opening round game.

 

Mechanicville 12  Voorheesville 0

Winning Pitcher:  Alivia Wood 6 IP  6 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Red Raiders – Patty Snyder 1B, 3B, 3 RBI’s       Lauren Ross 2 1B’s, 2B, RBI

The Raiders scored five times in the second frame and cruised from there to the win in the opening round of Class B.

 

Hoosick Falls 6  Rensselaer 1

Winning Pitcher:  Abby Philpott  7 IP  6 Hits  10 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Panthers – Marissa Landry 2 1B’s, 2 RBI’s      Stephanie Merwin 2 1B’s, RBI

A four run third by the Panthers was more than enough for Phillpott who handcuffed the Rams over seven frames as the Falls posts the “W” in Class C.

 

Saratoga Catholic 10  Corinth 5

Winning Pitcher:  Victoria Alvord 7 IP  6 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Saints – Julia Murdock 2-4, 2B, 3 RBI’s      Molly O’Reilly 1-3, 3 RBI’s      Cassidy Hayner 2-3

After spotting Corinth two runs in the top of the first, the Saints took the lead in the second and went on to notch the comfortable win in Class C action.

 

Maple Hill 11  Cambridge 0

Mayfield 8  Hoosic Valley 7

 

Baseball

Greenwich 6  Hoosick Falls 5

Winning Pitcher:  Christian O’Brien 4 1/3 of hitless relief

Leading Hitters:  Witches – John Walsh 2B

Greenwich used three hit batsmen and a pair of walks in the final frame, to score twice and post the come-from-behind victory over the Falls in a Class CC quarterfinal.

 

Saratoga Catholic 5  Schuylerville 4

Winning Pitcher:  Ryan McCarroll

Leading Hitters:  Saints – Dylan Custer 2B       Dante Marin game-winning, walk-off RBI

Spa Catholic tied things with three runs in the bottom of the seventh and walked off on a Dante Marin RBI single in the eighth, to survive and advance in Class B.

 

Lake George 6  Hoosic Valley 0

Winning Pitcher:  Tony Abrantes one-hitter  9 K’s

Leading Hitters:  Warriors – Jack Kelleher 1B, 2B, RBI      Sean Butkowski 2B, 2 RBI’s      Alex Jones 2 1B’s, RBI

The Warriors ripped 11 hits, plating six runs, more than enough for Abrantes who spins the one-hit gem as Lake Gorge advances in Class C.
