Panthers Win Opener

Leading Scorers: Panthers – Logan Thayne 25 Grace Wysocki 10 Meekel – Avery Mills 21
Key Stat: The Falls enjoy a nice night shooting the basketball connecting on 57% from two point range and knock down 6 of 18 from behind the arc.
Take Away: Thayne has a monster opening night scoring 25 points on 11 of 15 shooting while pulling down 16 rebounds to lead the Panthers past Meekel.
Greenwich Rolls Over Schoharie

Leading Scorers: Witches – Molly Brophy 38 Faith Hewitt 11 Schoharie – Julie Lehoe 18 Alexis Williams 10
Key Stat: Greenwich put 45 points on the board before the break and added 28 more in the third period in cruising to their second win of the year.
Taka Away: The Witches in two outings are scoring 80 points per contest with Molly Brophy dropping 34 and 38 points to lead the attack. A good test for the Greenwich offense comes on Friday night when they’ll travel to Schaghticoke to face the Indians of Hoosic Valley.
Section II Girls Soccer All-Stars
Soccer players from the Wasaren were well represented on Sunday at the girls Section II soccer banquet with a number of league players recognized as Section II all-stars.
In Class C Stillwater’s Brooke Pickett was named Player of the Year and Stillwater head coach Christine Ihnatolya was named co-coach of the C classification.
Joining Pickett on the all-star squad were teammates Teya Staie, Devon Wagner and Keelyn Peacock, Sami Dickinson (Hoosic Valley), Vanessa Evans (Cambridge), Annnelise Rebel (Waterford) and Josie Ryan (Hoosick Falls).
In Class B Savannah Bowie (Mechanicville) earned Goalkeeper of the Year while her teammates Jada Brown and Ryleigh Hopeck , along with Isabella Bisceglia (Tamarac) were selected to the Class B team.
Witches Top Malone

Leading Scorers: Witches – John Walsh 25 Jesse Kuzmich 15 Carson Mosher 12 (game -winning three) Malone – Poirier 19 Fountain 16 Sivan 12
Key Stat: The lines were good to Greenwich who converted on 14 of 20 free throws and knocked down seven triples including Mosher’s game-winner with two seconds remaining in regulation as Greenwich moves to 3-0 on the season.
Take Away: Some nice balance and big numbers for Greenwich. Three double figure scorers in Walsh, Mosher and Kuzmich with 13 of Kuzmich’s 15 points coming in the second half. Walsh added 10 boards, Mosher nine, and Luke Pemrick nearly had a triple double with eight points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.
Stillwater Girls Basketball Preview
Stillwater head coach Matthew LeMoyne enters his second year at the helm of the Warriors and feels his squad is on the right track. “The transition into year two has been a bit smoother for everyone involved. The girls know what we value as a team and the areas we need to work on.”
This year LeMoyne will look for leadership from a trio of returning players in sophomore Marley Mueller, junior Brooke Pickett and senior Amiya Jennings. Mueller led the team in scoring a year ago as a freshman.
“I’ve liked our team speed and athleticism thus far”, said LeMoyne. “We’re not blessed with a ton of height, but we’re athletic in the backcourt and have a big that can score.” Continue reading
Cambridge Wins Tip-Off Tourney

Key Stat: A 21-2 second period ended this one before the break as the Indians win the championship game of the Delaware Academy Tip-Off Tournament.
Take Away: A nice weekend for the Indians as they claim the tourney title placing Lily and Sophie Philips on the all-tourney team. Four in doubles on this night with Epler knocking back four triples, part of 16 treys Cambridge bottomed in the tournament.
Hoosick Falls Boys Basketball Preview
In basketball circles the Wasaren has long been known as one of the premier small school leagues in the state. The conference schedule’s a gauntlet run with no nights off, teams knowing if they don’t bring their “A” game they’ll head home with a loss.
That being said the Hoosick Falls Panthers over the last five seasons have simply dominated the league. Winners in 70 of their last 72 league games, including 40 straight have led to five consecutive Wasaren crowns for the Panthers.
“Our kids have always enjoyed playing with a target on their backs and keeping “it” going”, said longtime head coach Mike Lilac. “They proudly accept upholding that tradition.” Continue reading

Key Stat: How about a 31 point quarter in your season-opener. Back that with an 18 point second period and Cambridge has half a hundred on the board at the half. Lily Phillips knocks down five triples and 23 points before the break, all leading to Cambridge facing Cooperstown this afternoon in the championship game of the Delaware Academy Tip-Off Tournament.
Take Away: The Indians are a young squad with three sophomores in the starting lineup. That trio combined for 53 points and 10 made threes, and this team as the season unfolds will only get better. Continue reading
