Boys Soccer; Raiders, Warriors, Bengals Post Wins

Mechanicville 8  Hoosick Falls 0:  The Red Raiders ran out to a 4-0 advantage at the half and coasted to the victory over the Falls.

Jeff Luce led the scoring parade for Mechanicville with a hat trick with Chris Ciccarelli adding a pair, and Jake Cavert, John Pingelski and Conor Keegan all scoring single goals for the 8-0, 8-1 Mechanicville squad.

Glenn Prarie and Zach White with two saves each combined for the Raider shutout.

 

Stillwater 3  Greenwich 0:  Grant Baker scored goals in each half spearheading the Warriors to the win over Greenwich.

Baker took a feed from Brandon DeBacco five minutes into the match and found the back of the net giving Stillwater the 1-0 cushion.

Midway through the first, it was Isaac Cutler off a Baker find and a 2-0 Stillwater lead.

Baker found the range again, midway through the second half to secure the “W” that moves the Warriors to 7-2, 9-2 on the year.

Tim Buchal with eight saves and the Stillwater defense combined to earn the shutout.

 

Tamarac 3  Hoosic Valley 2:  Tamarac’s Alex Bassey, Max Ali and Dylan Briccetti all connected for goals, with Ali’s and Briccetti’s of the PK variety as the Bengals got past the Indians of Hoosic Valley.

William Mansfield and Isaac Carlo both tallied in the match for the Valley.

The First Half of the Fall

It seems like just yesterday it was late August with it’s heat and humidity but in less than a week we’ll turn the calendar to October and with that our high school fall sports season enters it’s second half.  A good time to take a look at what’s played out for the schools in the Wasaren, in the sports that they play. Boys Soccer; Raiders Win Again

Mechanicville 9  Greenwich 2:  The Mechanicville boys soccer team has shown the way in the Wasaren this year sporting a 7-0 league mark heading into Tuesday’s match in Greenwich.  The Witches have forged a nice first half of the season as well coming into the contest at 5-2-2.  On paper the matchup pointed towards a competitive get-together.  Didn’t happen.

Mechanicville scored five times before the break and cruised to the “W” to stay perfect in league play.

Jeff Luce, Riley Duesler, and Zach Rapaccioulo all found the back of the net twice for the Raiders while Chris Ciccarelli, Jake Cavert and Andrew Micare added single strikes as Mechanicville moves to 8-0, 8-1 with the victory.

Charlie Gartner and AJ Rymph tallied for the Witches and their keeper Owen Keech under pressure all afternoon saved 20 shots in the match.

 

Waterford 5  Hoosick Falls 2:  Hunter Guertin scored a hat trick to lead the Fordians past the Falls.

Tyler Galaneau and Will Soden added goals for Waterford who improves to 4-3-2 with the win, while the Panthers slip to 3-6 with the loss.

 

 

Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

Congratulations to Cambridge-Salem football player Tommy English on being named this week’s Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

In a 42-20 victory over Granville on Saturday in Salem, English rushed for three first half touchdowns and added a receiving score as well helping the Indians move to 4-0 on the season.

The senior back ran for 121 yards in the game including touchdowns runs of 1, 5 and 75 yards, and added a pair of catches for 79 yards highlighted by a 63-yard touchdown reception seconds before halftime.

Girls Soccer

Stillwater 2  Hoosic Valley 0:  The two squads battled through a scoreless first half but after the break the Warriors found the range with a pair of goals to secure the home victory over the Indians.

Paige Brinsko off a Teya Staie find put Stillwater on the board at the 45:04 mark and later in the half Keelyn Peacock found Staie who finished at the 76:08 mark, more than enough offense as the Stillwater “D” and keeper Kiersten Conroy ( 3 saves), combined to pitch the shutout. Continue reading

Soccer Results

A full slate of action for girls soccer played out on the fields across the Wasaren Thursday afternoon as the regular season moves into it’s second half.  The Warriors of Stillwater sit atop the league standings adding another “W” yesterday to remain unbeaten through nine outings.

Stillwater 11  Berlin 1:  Seven different Warriors found the range as Stillwater coasted to the easy victory in Berlin.

Brooke Pickett with a hat trick, Keelyn Peacock with a pair of goals and three assists, and Devon Wagner with two scoring strikes led the Stillwater assault.

Teya Staie added a goal and assisted on three as the Warriors with the win  go to 9-0 on the season. Continue reading
