The Section II basketball tournament kicked off Friday night with opening round action in Class C, and six Wasaren squads took the floor looking to extend their seasons with a “W”.
At night’s end only two teams, the Cambridge boys and the girls from Stillwater, were able to notch wins and advance to the next round of play.

Girls
Stillwater 54 Chatham 50
Leading Scorers: Warriors – Marley Mueller 18 Brooke Pickett 12 Chatham – Taylor 15 Doyle 14 Allen 11
Key Points: The Warriors built a 30-16 lead after two periods and held off Chatham down the stretch, to earn the first round victory.
Next Up: #13 Stillwater will play at #4 Berne-Knox on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
Warrensburg 60 Saratoga Catholic 30
Leading Scorers: Warrensburg – Megan Hughes 15 Abigail Ranous 14 Saints – Ani Crocker 7 Ryleigh Dempsey 8
Key Points: Warrensburg won every quarter including a 21-6 final frame to put away the Saints.
Boys
Cambridge 71 Canajoharie 57
Leading Scorers: Indians – Brendan Holcomb 21 Williams 18 Tommy English 13 Canjo – Yacobucci 18 Van Slyke 15 Nare 10
Key Points: The Indians placed three in doubles and played a strong second half outscoring Canjo 38-24 after the break.
Next Up: # 11 Cambridge travels to # 6 Maple Hill on Tuesday to take on the Hilltoppers in a 7 p.m. run.

Leading Scorers: Galway – Tanner Williams 19 Thor White 14 Indians – Isaac Carlo 13 John Acker 13
Key Points: In a game close throughout Galway used a 15-6 advantage in made free throws to post the narrow victory over the Valley.
Mayfield 69 Waterford 36
Leading Scorers: Trevon Gifford 22 Garrett Delaney 15 Fordians – Bobby Valigorski 15
Key Points : Mayfield bottomed 11 triples, and won every quarter in notching the easy “W” over the Fordians.
Duanesburg 75 Berlin 44
Leading Scorers: Tyler Martin 15 Boone Lynch 12 Tyler Montgomery 12 Mountaineers – Joshua Hendricks 21 Tyler Kellar 11
Key Points: Duanesburg jumped out to a 27-10 lead after one, and cruised to the win over Berlin who played without their leading scorer Ryan Willis.
