Tamarac 32  Cohoes 8:  The Bengals Peyton Nelean ran for 92 yards and two scores to lead Tamarac past Cohoes in the season-opener.

Bengal quarterback Bo Catherwood threw scoring strikes of 1 and 36 yards to Frank Zotto, and Spencer Yetto added an 8-yard TD run for Tamarac who led 32-0 at the break.

 

Mechanicville 6  Greenwich 0:  Mechanicville’s quarterback Dan Motta scored the games only points on a 6-yard touchdown run in the final period as the Red Raiders notched the “W” in the week one defensive battle. Continue reading →

Stillwater Runs Past Granville

stillwater warriorA season ago the Stillwater football team posted an 8-2 mark, making it all the way to the Class C Super Bowl.  With the Warriors successful 2017 campaign as the backdrop, there are high expectations in Stillwater this fall.  After their effort Friday night in the season-opener against Granville, it appears the Warriors are indeed primed for a special year.

Junior running back Mason Seymour ran for 181 yards and three touchdowns leading Stillwater to a dominant 48-0 decision over the Golden Horde. Continue reading →

Boys and girls soccer along with a pair of golf matches played out on Thursday in the Wasaren as all sports ramp up with football kicking off this weekend.

Boys Soccer

Stillwater 5  Waterford 4 OT:  The Warriors Grant Baker scored a hat trick before the break, and saved the game-winner for the overtime period, as Stillwater got past the Fordians of Waterford.

Josh Luca added a first half score for the Warriors, while Waterford connected on a Hunter Guertin PK and a strike from Jack O’Brien off a corner as the teams went to halftime with Stillwater holding a 4-2 advantage.

Second half goals from Tyler Galanearu and Zach Soden knotted things at 4-4 setting up Bakers game-winner in the extra session.

With the win Stillwater improves to 1-0, 3-0 while Waterford goes to 0-1, 0-1 with the tough loss. Continue reading →

Hoosick Falls 5  Cambridge 0:  The Panthers Matt Smith fired the low round of 34, leading Hoosick Falls to the sweep of Cambridge in a match played at the Hoosick Falls Country Club on Wednesday.

Joining Smith in the victory parade were Ryan Bloomer, Miles Smith, Brady Hathaway and Alison Hathaway as the Falls improve to 6-0 on the year with the “W”. Continue reading →

Warriors Top Waterford

Tuesday’s girls soccer match at Stillwater between the Warriors and the visitors from Waterford was moved to a 10:00 start in an effort to beat the oppressive heat and humidity.  In the game, on the beautiful turf field in Stillwater, both the Warriors and Mother Nature claimed “W’s” as game officials suspended the second half of play due to the heat index and Stillwater came away with the 3-0 decision. Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week

67_hoosickfalls2Congratulations to Hoosick Falls golfer Ryan Bloomer on being named Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week.

Bloomer, the top seeded golfer on the unbeaten Hoosick Falls squad, has posted “W’s” in all five matches.

Ryan has earned medalist honors in four of the five matches, carding a 37 against Hoosic Valley, 33’s versus Tamarac and Saratoga Catholic, and fired a 38 in the Waterford match.

Congratulations to Ryan, our first Wasaren Sportsnet Player of the Week for the 2018-19 school year.

Stillwater Dominant in Warrior Weekend Tournament

stillwater warriorStillwater soccer teams couldn’t have drawn things up much better than how they played out the past two days in the Warrior Weekend Tournament.

In a four team tournament for both the girls and boys, the Warriors doubled down posting victories in both championship games last evening in Stillwater.

On Friday night the boys notched a 4-0 win over Galway scoring a pair of goals on each side of the break in a comfortable season-opening “W”.

Jack Rubenstein led the Warriors with a pair goals, with Grant Baker and Jake Zdonick adding a goal each.

In the championship match the Warriors and Doane Stuart were tied 1-1 at the break, but Stillwater tallied three time in the second half to earn the 4-2 victory.

Jake Zdonick found the back of the net three times, Cooper Monast added a score, and Grant Baker dropped a pair of assists to lead the Warriors.

On the girls side of things Stillwater rolled over Cohoes 8-1 in the opening round with both Brooke Pickett and Devon Wagner scoring hat tricks, and Teya Staie adding a pair of goals as the high powered Warrior attack was on full display. Pickett’s second goal in the contest was her 100th career varsity goal.

In the championship game Stillwater faced Voorheesville and jumped out to a 5-2 advantage at the half on their way to a 7-2 decision over the Blackbirds.

Five different players tallied for the Warriors in the first half as Kate McEvoy, Teya Staie, Devon Wagner, Keelyn Peacock, and Brooke Pickett all rang the the bell, with McEvoy and Pickett adding second strikes after the break to round out the scoring.

A nice start to the soccer season for both Warrior squads, priming for the Wasaren schedule which gets underway this week.
